Is it normal: For my baby to have a flat spot on their head?

Welcome to our new series on “Is it normal…” We want to hear your questions and we’ll answer them in future posts! What are you wondering about? Human bodies are weird!

Is it normal: For my baby to have a flat spot on their head?

Answer: Nope. Common, but not normal. A flat spot on a baby’s head usually means that they can’t turn their head fully to both sides, so a preference develops and they rest their head on one spot while sleeping. If your baby has trouble turning their head both ways, has a strong preference for turning to one side, or is developing a flat spot, time to see a pediatric chiropractor. We use very gentle techniques including craniosacral therapy, as well as teaching parents stretches to do at home, to correct this problem early (and often help prevent the need for other interventions such as helmets).
