Have your children had their spines checked lately?

Have your children had their spines checked lately? We can help get them into the best shape possible to optimize their development. We see tons of kids in our office!

Chiropractic care for infants and kids looks very different from adult care and is safe, gentle, and effective. Some kids are born into this world needing a little extra help, others need some help as they grow and develop. Chiropractic care calms the nervous system and allows for optimal function.

Here are our recommendations by age for children:

Newborns. We recommend all newborns be examined by a chiropractor for spine and cranial fixation that can develop in utero and from delivery (especially infants born via c-section or assisted/complicated birth). Within the first month is best; it’s never too early. Dr. Sarah specializes in babies and typically recommends that infants be checked monthly in the first 3 months (this is also a prime time to answer parent questions, provide support, and catch issues before they progress). Common signs to look for include: a baby who prefers to turn head to one side, routine spitting up/vomiting, visible discomfort, difficulty sleeping, suspicion of colic, facial asymmetry, constipation, falls, injuries.

3-12 Months Old. We recommend checkups about every 3 months. As the baby reaches developmental milestones, spinal and cranial fixations happen that can be easily addressed to prevent future issues. Symptoms that should definitely be checked include abnormal crawling (scooting, etc), visible discomfort, preference for one side (nursing, sleeping, being held), ear infection, persistent neck rotation, spitting up, reflux, constipation, falls, injuries.

12 Months – 18 years: Ideally, kids without complicating issues should be checked every 3 months. This is typically frequently enough to catch spinal & other joint issues that happen from normal active childhoods, to prevent future issues. Symptoms that should definitely be checked include frequent headaches, bedwetting, constipation, falls and injuries. Many young athletes seek chiropractic care for improved sports performance.
