Favorite Parenting Books

Parenting – what a crazy ride. As soon as you solve one problem with your kid, they’ll be right on to the next one.

Here are the parenting books that I recommend over and over to patients – the ones that helped me a ton at different stages of parenting. Most of these are available in our lending library at our Worland clinic.

๐Ÿ˜จ If Your Kid Eats This Book, Everything Will Still Be Okay: How to Know if Your Child’s Injury or Illness Is Really an Emergency by Lara Zibners MD – this one kept me from going to the ER at 2 am many times because I was sure something was terribly wrong. This is full of great info on what’s normal and when you should go to the ER!

๐Ÿ‘ซ Siblings Without Rivalry: How to Help Your Children Live Together So You Can Live Too by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish – this one gives you great language to use in talking to your child about their sibling, to establish good relationships. Great to read when your second is born!

๐Ÿคฏ Fat Talk: Parenting in the Age of Diet Culture by Virginia Sole-Smith – this is a newer book that such an important read for parents today, about how to navigate talking about bodies in today’s world.

๐Ÿคฑ The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding: Completely Revised and Updated 8th Edition by Diane Wiessinger – make sure you get the newest edition. This is the only breastfeeding book you need. Everything you need to know about what’s normal and how to fix problems with the latest, evidence-based great info.

๐Ÿคฐ The Pregnancy Book: Month-by-Month, Everything You Need to Know From America’s Baby Experts by William Sears MD – this was my favorite pregnancy book. Beware, there are lots of awful ones out there!

๐Ÿฅฆ Simple & Safe Baby-Led Weaning: How to Integrate Foods, Master Portion Sizes, and Identify Allergies by Malina Malkani – this is about starting solids with babies and it’s great info.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆGood Inside: A Guide to Becoming the Parent You Want to Be by Dr. Becky Kennedy – this is another new one that I loved. Love her perspective (and her podcast) about starting with the fact that your child is good inside. Great info on regulating yourself as a parent.
